Ellingsen, director of the Campbell River and District Public Art Gallery, judged the contest. Each judge said it was difficult to choose a winner. Nonperishable Food Sculpture Contest ResultsBut the Seven Eleven Seveys prevailed, winning the $500 first prize. The Campbell River Employment Foundations staff claimed the $250 second prize. The Club decided to award the third prize directly to the real winner of the contest: the Campbell River and District Food Bank, which also received over 200 pounds of food from the sculptures. The Seveys weren't simply happy to walk away with the prize money, however, they donated half of it back to the Campbell River and District Food Bank. Not to be outdone, the CREFs team also pledged all or part of their prize money would be donated to the Food Bank. The really great news is that many people have already started planning their sculptures for next year's contest, which is tentatively scheduled to occur on the first Saturday of June, 2000. |
